ADMINISTRATOR COMPETENCIES AFFECTING TEACHERS’WORK PERFORMANCE IN SHOOLS UNDER SAKON NAKHON PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATIVE ORGANIZATION

Abstract

          The study aimed to: 1) identify the components administrator competencies, 2) explore the levels of administrator competencies, 3) explore the levels of work performance of teachers, 4) examine the relationship between administrator competencies and work performance of teachers, 5) investigate the predictive power of administrator competencies affected work performance of teachers and 6) introduce the guidelines to develop administrator competencies affected work performance of teachers in schools under Sakon Nakhon Provincial Administrative Organization. The samples of the study comprised 238 participants of administrators and teachers. They were recruited using stratified random sampling. Instruments used in data collection was a set of five-rating scale questionnaires, composed of a part of administrator competencies, which indicated validity value index ranged between 0.60 - 1.00, discrimination power index ranged between 0.32-0.73 and reliability index at 0.93, and the part of work performance of teachers, which indicated validity value index ranged between 0.60 - 1.00, discrimination power index ranged between 0.33-967 and reliability index at 0.93. Statistics used in data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Regression Analysis.

          The findings were as follows.

1. The components of administrator competencies comprised five components, namely 1) leadership, 2) achievement motivation, 3) team working, 4) skills, and 5) knowledge.


2. The competencies of administrators under Sakon Nakhon Provincial Administrative Organization, in overall, was at the highest level.


3. The work performance of teachers in schools under Sakon Nakhon Provincial Administrative Organization, in overall, was at the highest level.


4. The competencies of administrators and the work performance of teachers in schools under Sakon Nakhon Provincial Administrative Organization showed positive correlation at moderate level, with statistical significance at .01.


5. The components of competencies of administrators which showed predictive power on work performance of teachers consisted of knowledge (X₅), skills (X₄), achievement motivation (X₂).


6. The guidelines to develop competencies of administrators affecting work performance of teachers in schools under Sakon Nakhon Provincial Administrative Organization composed of three aspects, namely 1) knowledge, 2) skills and 3) achievement motivation.
