The Development social capitals to become a resource for learning and promoting tourism in less visited areas using a geographic information system

Abstract

This research aims 1) to collect and analyze information on social capitals in the Greater Mekong Subregion in Ubon Ratchathani Province and 2) to develop social capitals to become a resource for learning and promoting tourism in less visited areas using a geographic information system. Research methods include literature review, interview of 50 experts who provided key information on social capitals, and focus group discussion with 12 experts selected using a purposive sampling technique to identify outstanding social capitals in the research area. A system development life cycle (SDLC) is used to design and develop an information system to present social capital information. 

            The research results showed that social capitals in the Mekong Subregion in Ubon Ratchathani Province can be divided into local wisdom capital, human capital, cultural capital such as values, beliefs, customs, historical and archeological sites, institutional capital, and natural resource capital. The development of social capitals using a geographic information system makes it easy to link data and convenient to access information. In addition, it was found that user satisfaction with the geographic information database for managing social capitals in Mekong Subregion in Ubon Ratchathani Province was high.
