Abstract

The aims of this research were: 1) to study the Uposatha mural of Pho Chai Khok Yai Temple, Bua Ban Sub-district, Yang Talat District, Kalasin Province; 2) to study the beauty according to the subjective theory; 3) to analyze the beauty of the Uposatha mural according to the subjective theory. This study was carried out by means of a qualitative research methodology. Its research tools included an in-depth interview used to collect the data from 12 key informants including 4 monks, 4 academics and 4 local philosophers. The gathered data were presented by the descriptive analysis.
The research results are as follows:
1. The Uposatha mural of Pho Chai Khok Yai Temple is a painting of Vessantara Jātaka and the Buddha's biography written within the Uposatha wall in 4 directions: East, Thosaporn and Himmapan episodes; West, episodes of Nokhon and Māra Confrontation of the Buddha; North, episodes of Chaka Sat, Maharaja; South: episodes of Tankan, Vanapawet, Chuchok, Chulapol, painted drawn in the late Rattanakosin period with
powder by Vietnamese artist.
2. The beauty in the subjective theory, caused by emotions, feelings, and experiences of individuals in visual perception of the mural creates emotions, feelings and perceptions of beauty with the ability of each individual to access the value of the objects seen in four points of view: 1) Sublimity, 2) faith, 3) satisfaction and 4) enjoyment.
3. The mural’s beauty according to the subjective theory, after seeing the mural, the sentimental feeling in each person's mind is divided into four types as follows: 1) surprise as an interesting feeling; 2) faith as a state of emotions of beliefs; 3) satisfaction as a feeling of pleasure and fulfillment; 4) pleasure as a feeling of joy.
