Conditions and Expectations Regarding Democracy Promotion of Students at Ban Mak Khaeng School Under the Office of Udon Thani Primary Educational Service Area 1

The purposes of this research were 1) study the democratic characteristics of students, 2) examine the current state and expectations for promoting democracy among students, and 3) provide recommendations on approaches to fostering democracy among students. The research employs a mixed-methods approach. The sample consists of 305 lower and upper secondary school students. The research instruments include a questionnaire, a rating scale with a reliability coefficient of 0.90, and a semi-structured interview. The primary informants, selected purposively, number 8 individuals. Data analysis was conducted using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and qualitative analysis through descriptive and inductive methods.
The research findings are as follows:
1. The overall democratic characteristics of students are at a high level. When considering each aspect, all are at a high level, ranked from the highest to the lowest mean as follows: 1. Fraternity, 2. Participation, 3. Majority rule, 4. Equality, and 5. Liberty.
2. The current state and expectations regarding the promotion of democracy at Ban Mak Khaeng School are at a moderate level overall. When considering each aspect, the highest average in the current state is for majority rule, followed by equality, fraternity, participation, and liberty.
3. Recommendations for promoting democracy at Ban Mak Khaeng School include: for liberty, students should have the freedom to express opinions without infringing on others' rights; for equality, students should respect one another; for fraternity, students should foster goodwill among peers; for majority rule, emphasis should be placed on the importance of democracy in elections; and for participation, students should engage in school activities and adhere to the school's established rules and agreements.
