Abstract

This study aimed to 1) develop teachers’ knowledge and understanding of Thai dance instruction, specifically the Bai Sri Su Khwan dance, through practice-based learning; 2) enhance teachers’ skills in organizing Thai dance learning activities correctly; and 3) examine teachers’ satisfaction with the instructional approach. The study employed an action research approach based on the concept of Stephen Kemmis and Robin McTaggart, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The target group comprised seven volunteer teachers from the Ban Bua Subdistrict school group. The research instruments included a test, interview form, observation form, meeting record form, skill assessment form, and questionnaire. The development strategies consisted of workshops and internal supervision.
The findings revealed that:
1. Teachers’ knowledge and understanding of Thai dance instruction improved, as they were able to design lesson plans and learning activities aligned with curriculum standards; however, during the first cycle, some teachers still lacked proficiency in practical implementation.
2. After improvements in the second cycle using coaching-based internal supervision, all teachers were able to organize learning activities correctly and effectively according to the four stages of practice-based learning: imitation, practice, improvement, and mastery. Consequently, students demonstrated improved learning behaviors.
3. Teachers’ satisfaction with the practice-based instructional approach was at a high level, particularly in terms of hands-on practice, feedback from supervision, and applicability in classroom settings. In conclusion, teacher development through workshops combined with internal supervision within the action research process effectively enhanced teachers’ knowledge, understanding, and instructional skills in Thai dance, and can be confidently applied in real classroom contexts.
