Abstract

This book reviews the historical science fiction novel Atthasutra clarifies groups of philosophical concepts in the conversations of the characters of the text: Buddhist philosophical theories and Taoist philosophical theories in the limits of philosophical idea in 4 parts: Metaphysics, Ethics, Esthetics, and Epistemology. It also attempts to combine the principles of Idappachayatā and Paṭiccasamuppāda by reflecting on the concepts of Saṃsāra, the law of karma, and the belief in free will. At the same time, the philosophical and scientific contents appear as opposite pair, with science taking the form of a thought system, pleasant artifacts, or things related to the dark side of human behavior. While philosophy appears form of thought systems as hope for problem-solving or character behavior, the emphasis is on warning or instructing people. As if it were a moral tale, asking the reader to do good, ignore evil, to explore the soul within, leading to a discussion of the problem of suffering according to Buddhist philosophy and encouraging the reader to live in harmony with nature according to the philosophical and scientific view of Taoism. Atthasuta's book is declared a group of works that bring to bear philosophical concepts. It also conveys that philosophy, religion, and science can coexist. Science gives readers imagination, intellectual power, and refusal to bow to all impossibilities, while philosophy helps them to feel humble. It teaches them to understand nature and have a realistic of the world.
