The Development of the Pattani Bay Local Curriculum for Elementary Science Learning

Abstract

This article was a part of participatory action research which aimed to create a local curriculum  on exploiting fundamental resources of Pattani bay sustainably in Primary school. There were two stages of research procedures. First, knowledge gap identification was the study of common data for curriculum development. Second, action research included three processes i.e., 1) curriculum creation, 2) curriculum implement, and 3) curriculum evaluation which presented results of curriculum implementation and improvement analysis Data were collected  through focus group, observation, group interview, and were analyzed by content analysis. The results revealed that the required fundamental science essence of the developed curriculum referred to connecting knowledge to process. The important skills involved researching and self-directed learning. Learning process was characterized by systematization and varieties of problem-solving. Learners’ involvement was promoted in all processes. Hands-on experiences were gained variously and properly depending on educational level.
