Metaphors of Morality and Ethics in the Chamkeunjai Magazine of the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC)

This study aimed to examines the use of metaphors reflecting moral and ethical concepts in the Chamkeunjai magazine by analyzing its content published from 2013 to 2017, totaling 24 issues. The study employed Conceptual metaphor theory to analyze the metaphors used in the magazine. The findings revealed that metaphors played a significant role in transforming abstract ideas of morality and ethics into tangible forms, facilitating better understanding and offering new perspectives to readers. Additionally, twelve conceptual metaphors for morality and ethics were identified, including [Morality and Ethics as Objects], [Morality and Ethics as the Growth of Trees], and [Morality and Ethics as War]. The primary functions of these conceptual metaphors were to convey abstract ideas and foster positive engagement with readers. Furthermore, the results highlighted the crucial role of metaphors in the magazine in enhancing the understanding of moral and ethical concepts within Thai society.
