Legal Measures for the Protection of Dance Professionals in Thailand: A Comparative Study with Foreign Legislation

Dance is an art form that plays a significant role in global culture and the economy. However, dancers in many countries, including Thailand, face legal and professional challenges. This study aimed to investigate and compare dance-related laws and professional standards in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and France, in comparison with Thailand using legal frameworks, professional standards, and case studies. This study emphasized labor compensation, social welfare benefits, and choreographic copyright protection. The results indicated that developed countries tend to have clear regulatory standards regarding remuneration, working hours, and welfare, along with systematic choreographic copyright protection. In contrast, Thailand lacks comprehensive measures for professional dancers. Accordingly, this study proposed policy recommendations for the development of laws and professional standards for dancers in Thailand, including the establishment of minimum wage rates, a social security system tailored for dancers, and improvements to copyright laws to effectively protect choreography.
