Development of the Learning Ecosystem of Kanchanaburi Municipality with Technology for Integrated City-level Economic Development in Physical

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a learning ecosystem for urban economic development in Kanchanaburi Municipality through the integration of physical learning spaces, digital learning platforms, short-term curricula, and experiential learning routes. The proposed ecosystem was designed to support lifelong learning and enhance the capabilities of local entrepreneurs and communities as key drivers of urban economic growth. A mixed-method research design was employed. Quantitative data were collected from 400 participants, with the sample size determined using Yamane’s (1973) formula at a 95 percent confidence level. Qualitative data were obtained from 67 key informants selected through purposive sampling, including community leaders, representatives from public and private organizations, local entrepreneurs, and stakeholders involved in learning spaces within Kanchanaburi Municipality. Research instruments consisted of questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory workshops. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic content analysis.

The findings revealed that: (1) Kanchanaburi Municipality possesses nine physical learning spaces and has developed seven community-based learning activities; (2) three short-term training courses were developed, including entrepreneurship development, digital media creation for social commerce, and online marketing strategies, along with an English learning module to enhance entrepreneurs’ communication skills. A digital learning application was also developed using YouTube and Glide platforms; and (3) three One Day Trip learning routes were designed to integrate experiential learning with tourism and community-based economic activities. The findings indicate that the integration of physical learning spaces and digital learning platforms can be developed into a comprehensive learning ecosystem that enhances entrepreneurial capacity, promotes lifelong learning opportunities, and supports sustainable urban economic development. The study highlights the potential of learning ecosystems as a strategic mechanism for linking education, digital technology, community participation, and local economic development within the context of a learning city.
