Abstract

This article were to analyze the double bass solo by Rufus Reid on “Body and Soul” from Joe Henderson’s The Standard Joe album in 2 aspect 1) harmonic interpretation 2) target note and approach note. For harmonic interpretation, Rufus Reid mostly used harmonic generalization through the solo. For target note, the root were setting as target note when harmonic interpretation as harmonic specificity, chord tones and upper extensions were setting as the target note when harmonic interpretation as harmonic generalization and reharmonization. Also mostly used the combined method for the approach note.
