A Comparative Analysis of Steve Gadd’s, Vinnie Colaiuta’s, and Dave Weckl’s Drums Solos on Shick Corea’s Humpty Dumpty

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse the Drums Solos of Stave Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weck which the subjects to analysis are motivic pattern,repetition,motivic development concepts,orchestrating phrases, irregular rhythmic pattern and musical form. The analysis result shows that Gadd, Colaiuta and Weck have shared common concepts and technic of improvisations such as a motivic pattern, repetition, motivic development of hand and foot pattern, question and answer sentenses, fragmentation and extention, three-beat phrases, odd grouping, orchestrating phrases the differences in details.
