Clara Schumann’s Prelude and Fugue Op.16 No.1: Performance Practice and Interpretation

Abstract

       The article focuses on the analysis of performance practice and interpretation of Clara Schumann’s Prelude and Fugue, Op.16 No.1 in order to improve playing the Prelude and Fugue, develop analysis and interpretative skill, study and prepare a successful performance, and provide a standard piano recital. This Prelude and Fugue is challenging and requires advanced playing techniques. A composition is considered significant since it has been included in standard repertoire for professional pianists. Studying its form structure not only the view of baroque but the view of romantic style, performance creative practice, communication and also proper interpretation, including to melodic sequence and harmonic sequence the Prelude and Fugue, Op.16 No.1 will enhance a satisfying the piano performance for the general and the pianists interested in the Prelude and Fugue style.
