The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme (MOW) in 1992 to awaken public understanding of the role of information and documentary heritage. Through its register it should capture international attention to safeguard the documented memory of all communities. Prof. Khunying Maenmas Chavalit was appointed a member of the international Consultative Committee of the Programme. To work in Thailand, the Ministry of Education by the approval of the Cabinet has appointed the Thai National Committee on Memory of the World Programme of UNESCO. This Committee, headed by Prof. Khunying Maenmas Chavalit, has been working for years until present. The Committee organized yearly meetings of the Network on the Preservation of Thai Intellectual and Documentary Heritage Successivesly. The establishment of Thai National Documentary Heritage Register is under preparing. At present 3 Thai documentary heritage items namely: The Inscription of King Ram Khahaeng, The Archival Documents of King Chulalongkorn’s Transformation of Siam (1868-1910) and The Epigraphic Archives of Wat Pho had already registered in UNESCO Memory of the World International Register.
