บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอความหมาย แนวคิดและหลักการสำคัญ กระบวนการของพันธกิจสัมพันธ์ชุมชน และตัวอย่างการประยุกต์ใช้พันธกิจสัมพันธ์ชุมชนในองค์กรสารสนเทศประเภทต่าง ๆ พันธกิจสัมพันธ์ชุมชนเป็นกระบวนการที่ดำเนินงานร่วมกันระหว่างองค์กรและกลุ่มบุคคลเป้าหมายที่มีส่วนได้ส่วนเสียจากกิจกรรมที่กระทำร่วมกันเพื่อนำไปสู่ความเข้าใจและความร่วมมือร่วมใจสนับสนุนการดำเนินงานดังกล่าว จึงก่อให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพในการปฏิบัติงานและการพัฒนาต่อไปอย่างยั่งยืน ปัจจุบันองค์กรสารสนเทศหลายแห่งได้ใช้แนวทางพันธกิจสัมพันธ์ชุมชนในการจัดและให้บริการซึ่งส่งผลให้กิจกรรมที่ดำเนินการประสบความสำเร็จ เกิดประโยชน์ในวงกว้างแก่ทุกฝ่ายที่เกี่ยวข้อง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นชุมชนกลุ่มเป้าหมายหรือองค์กรสารสนเทศที่ดำเนินกิจกรรม
