This academic article was funded by a National Research Council campaign to promote Thai research activities and innovation. The objectives were to: 1) state a set of criteria and protocol for selecting appropriate publications for Thai research archives; 2) analyze the contents for preservation standards and metadata descriptions for collecting Thai research archival materials;
3) digitize significant National Research Council hard copies and other documents related to research in Thailand for preservation in digital format; 4) design and develop a digital repository application and web portal for the Thai Research Archives project, and create a programming application (app) interface linking with different research repositories; 5)design and develop
a digital repository application and web portal for the HRH Princess Sirindhorn Oversea Archives project; and 6) compile assessment reports and related Thai Research Archives Repository (TRAR) evidence for the application of CoreTrustSeal certification.
This research comprised documentary analysis and system development. The target number of National Research Council documents was up to 6,450 files. Data was collected by a designated data form used with software development instruments such as professional home page (PHP), MySQL, AtoM and Omeka.
The following were the outcomes: 1) Thai research archival documents may be divided into 11categories to encompass the significance of Thai research work; 2) the appropriate preservation standard for Thai research archives is ISAD(G), with file coding specifications to identify and reference documents; 3) the compatible digital file format is 72-300 dots per inch (dpi) resolution and 1240x720 pixels for JPEGs and PDFs, respectively; 4) the Thai Research Archives Repository app combines three main functions: connecting the AtoM database system through the web portal; 5) the HRH Princess Sirindhorn Oversea Archives Project app connects a web portal to the Omeka database system; and 6) assessment reports were completed and submitted in English with comprehensive details following the 16 criteria for CoreTrustSeal certification.
