Media Literacy Skill for Children and Youth to Develop Digital Citizenship

Children and youth are at an age where they develop skills for rapid learning in an era of dynamic information and communication technology. Children of this age need learning skills of the 21st century to create important opportunities to grow into digital citizens with media literacy skills in many areas, for example, mass communication, information media, and digital media. This article presents the meaning of media literacy, the background and importance of media literacy skills, element of media literacy, the concept of digital citizenship, the importance of media literacy, and the value of digital citizenship for children and youth, developing children and youth to have media literacy skills and the role of parents, guardians and teachers in promoting media literacy skills for digital citizenship.
