Knowledge Management in Creating People’s Participation for Crime Prevention and Suppression

Abstract

The form and implementation of the Project for the Public in Reducing Crimes (Project: PPC.) were efficient, and its operatives recognized that it was a form that was actually able to reduce the problem of crime in their own communities. Because the project focused on changing attitudes of the operatives, it had the style and form of obviously seeking cooperation from the people, emphasizing the methods of establishing friendly relations between people and the police, and was implemented by clear and procedural methods. It was important to build knowledge concerning the principles and forms of establishing the people’s participation in support for crime prevention and suppression in Thailand. Therefore, the researchers used the form of implementation of the aforementioned project as an approach to the study and drafted a manual of operations and establishment of the people’s participation in support for crime prevention and suppression. The research results were summarized and incorporated into the manual of operations, and contained nine significant parts as follows: Part 1 Á Introduction, Part 2 - Key Principles, Part 3 - Changing
Attitudes of the Operatives, Part 4 - Forms of Establishing Relations with the People, Part 5 - Methods and Procedures to Establish Participation, Part 6 - Maintenance of Relations between the Police and the People, Part 7 - Operating Budget, Part 8 - Reporting the Performances, and Part 9 - Examples of implementation Approaches.
