Characterization of ''Susan Delfino'' From Desperate Housewives Series

Abstract

This qualitative study is a content analysis of the series Desperate Housewives that was broadcasted during 2004-2012. Results from the study found that Susan Mayer Delfino, one of the four major cast members, is a perfectly beautiful brunette with dark eyebrows. celestial nose, and prominent eyes. Her character is a representation of an energetic, nimble, untidy, and notoriously clumsy woman. Susan resides at number 4353 Wisteria Lane and has various jobs including author and illustrator of children's books, an art teacher at a kindergarten school, a nanny, and an artist. She married Karl Mayer and gave birth to their daughter, Julie. After the divorce, Susan remarried to Mike Delfino and gave birth to a son named MJ. Susan's unstable income often made her life a struggle with financial problems, and that also forced her to work multiple jobs to earn a living. She had to become a single mom for her only daughter after the first divorce, however, there were always nice guys that came into her life and encouraged her. Throughout the series, the relationship between Susan and the other four neighbors, Bree Van de Kamp. Lynette Scavo, Gabrielle Solis, and Mary Alice Young, are by way of being supportive and helpful to each other.
