CHANGES OF PERFORMING ART OF KANTRUEM FOLK SONG OF THAI-KHMER PEOPLE IN DONG MAN VILLAGE, KHO KO SUBDISTRICT, MUEANG DISTRICT, SURIN PROVINCE, BETWEEN 2001 – PRESENT

Abstract

The objectives of the current research article were to: 1) study about the performing art of Kantruem, Thai-Khmer folk song of Surin province 2. investigate changes, in terms of lyrics, musical instruments and performances, of Kantruem folk song between 2001 - present. The data was studied and collected employing relevant document, field trip, particularly in the location surrounded by Kantruem evidence and culture, questionnaire as well as interview forms. Additionally, Kantruem musicians and the audiences who have lived in Dong Man village were interviewed. The information was collected and analyzed to show the final findings and the overall of questionnaire responses.

          The research findings were found as follows: 1) According to the questionnaire items related to performing art of Kantruem folk song, Kantruem audiences appreciated the Kantruem show, the audiences used to watch Kantruem live show, Kantruem show have helped reflect the current trends of the society. The average of individual item was calculated at the high level of 4.13 percent. 2) According to the questionnaire items related to changes of performing art of Kantruem folk song, Kantruem audiences have comprehended Kantruem lyrics, they have known how to sing and perform Kantruem show, they have known both previous and current Kantruem actors as well as the audiences thought that Kantruem folk song has been worth conserving. The average of individual item was calculated at the high level of 4.27 percent.
