Abstract

The objectives of this study were to analyze the exclamations in the translated novel entitled “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” by Onjira Plamuekkhomkhiew Miewkhomdaeng Asoonbadan and Nangmanburapha And To construct the exercise package on the use of exclamations for Chinese students at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University.  In order to analyze the exclamations and to construct the exercise package on the use of exclamations in the translated novel “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” for Chinese students at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. The data source recruited the 1,021 exclamations in the 6 translated novels entitled “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” by Onjira Plamuekkhomkhiew Miewkhomdaeng Asoonbadan and Nangmanburapha.

The research instruments were a form recording exclamations appeared in the translated novel “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” which consisted of 2 parts 1) The use of exclamations in “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” involving analysis of types, functions, and its meaning; 2) The analysis of exercise package on the use of exclamations appeared in the translated novel “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” for Chinese students at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. The statistics for data analysis were IOC, frequency, and percentage.

   The results showed that: 1) The analysis of exclamations appeared in the translated novel “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” revealed 4 types : Secondary Interjection , Conative  Interjections , Cognitive Interjections , Volitive Interjections  2) The analysis of the exclamation functions revealed 3 items : supplementary utterance, strengthening utterance, expressing speakers’ feelings comprising 8 types i.e. shocking, anger, demanding or informing , understanding or perceiving , sympathy, delighted, surprised, suffering. 3) The analysis of  Interpretation of interjections found that all are verbal meaning expression.

The analysis of exercise package on exclamations obtained from “Ongyingkammalor - My Fair Lady” for Chinese students at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University by IOC expert validation was at 0.85 and the quality assessment was at 3.78 that meant the quality of exercise package is at the good level and suitable for implementation with the Chinese students.
