ภาพแทนตะวันตกในวรรณกรรมนิราศต่างประเทศ

บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยเรื่อง ภาพแทนตะวันตกในวรรณกรรมนิราศต่างประเทศ โดยใช้แนวคิดภาพแทน (Representation) และแนวคิดอัสดงคตนิยม (Occidentalism) เพื่อศึกษาภาพแทนตะวันตกในวรรณกรรมนิราศต่างประเทศ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ภาพแทนตะวันตกที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรมนิราศ ได้แก่ 1) ชาวตะวันตก : ผู้ศิวิไลซ์ 2) การศึกษาตะวันตก : ต้นแบบความรู้สมัยใหม่ 3) เมืองในตะวันตก : ศูนย์กลางแห่งความเจริญทางวัตถุ 4) ธรรมชาติ : พิสดารและแปลกใหม่ 5) ศิลปวัฒนธรรมตะวันตก : สิ่งมหัศจรรย์ ภาพแทนดังกล่าวเป็นการมองกลับตะวันตก ผ่านแนวคิดอัสดงคตนิยม โดยการประกอบสร้างความหมายของกวี ที่ได้พบเห็นสิ่งแปลกใหม่และสิ่งที่คุ้นเคยกอปรกับมโนทัศน์ของกวีภายใต้บริบทสังคมไทย ขณะเดียวกันแม้กวีจะชื่นชมในความก้าวหน้าของตะวันตก แต่กวีได้วิพากษ์ตะวันตกเพื่อลดทอนคุณค่าที่ขัดศีลธรรมไทย โดยการเจรจาต่อรองทางวัฒนธรรมและยืนยันอัตลักษณ์ไทย
