A Study of Communication Problems in Japanese Language Among Thai Workers: A Case Study of Japanese Elderly Caregivers from

Abstract
This study aims to 1) examine the challenges and difficulties in Japanese language communication faced by Thai workers from Chiang Rai who provide elderly care in Japan, and 2) propose the guidelines to address and overcome these communication problems. Samples for this research were 12 Thai caregivers from Chiang Rai with at least six months of elderly care experience in Japan. Data were collected through an online questionnaire consisting of 66 questions, and the analysis employed statistical methods including percentages, mean (), and standard deviation (S.D.). The findings revealed that: 1) The Thai caregivers faced the most significant challenges in reading and writing Japanese for work-related documentation. They expressed the highest need for improvement in listening skills and preferred classroom learning with foreign instructors. 2) Relevant institutions or agencies in Chiang Rai province should plan and organize educational programs or training activities to adequately prepare Thai workers in Japanese writing, reading, and listening skills. These programs should be conducted by instructors to enhance the caregivers’ confidence in using the language. This would enable them to perform their caregiving duties for the elderly in Japan more effectively and seamlessly.
