The Characteristics and Roles of Transformational Leaders for School Administration in the 21st Century

Abstract

This article aims to present the characteristics and roles of transformational leaders for school management in the 21^st century. The characteristics of transformational leaders in school management in the 21^st century consist of 4 skills and 6 characteristics. The 6 skills consist of communication skills, creative skills, vision skills and cooperation skills. The 6 characteristics consist of the vision, belief that the school is intended to be a learning place, valuation and importance of human resources, good skills of being an effective communicator and listener, proactive behavior and the courage to take risks. As for the 6 roles of transformational  leader in school management in the 21^st century, leaders must understand the change, change management for school development, focusing on the overall performance rather than the individual's work, causing the personnel in the school to recognize to the operation results, democratic system management, coordinate for smooth operation for work efficiency, by external organizations to coordinate cooperation in education, the issue of reconciliation, public relations, and encouraging personnel to report on the results of operations and publicize the reports to related parties and the public, and be ready to respond to changes.
