Essential Phrases for Chinese Students Using Medical Care Services in Thailand

Abstract
This research aims to collect and compile essential phrases for communication in medical care service situations in Thailand, using a quantitative research method. The researchers collected quantitative data from 96 Chinese students who had experience using medical services. The research tools used for data collection were questionnaires. Statistics used for data analysis included mean and standard deviation. The researchers sorted out a 111 word-set of the essential terms of the most frequent used in the medical context, categorized according to the medical service processes, which contains 32 phrases for the registration process, 23 for screening vital signs, 20 for consultations with doctors, 19 for payment, and 17 for receiving medication. The word-set was then delivered to the Chinese students in the original sample to determine the level of necessity. The results showed that the phrases deemed most important for Chinese students in seeking medical care services were those related to receiving medication, followed by consultations with doctors, screening for vital signs, registration, and payment, respectively.
