A Study on the Influence of Buddhism in Niphan Wang Na

Abstract

Niphan Wang Na was written by Princess Kampushchat who is the daughter of Maha Sura Singhanat (His Royal Highness) and Ang E. This piece of literature is about the time during the illness and the death of her father, Maha Sura Singhanat, which is the important event in Thai history in the early Rattanakosin period. What is interesting about this piece of literature is the influence of Buddhism. The teachings on karma, the three characteristics, four Brahmavihara, perfection, enlightenment and nirvana and the beliefs of Buddhism, such as Arahant, Dhammikaraj, 4 continents, heaven, gods, heavenly flower, the termination of the religion of the Lord Buddha, the end of the world, Vessantara, Mahajati Preaching, Meditation and Phra Buddha Sihing were all mentioned in the literature. This reflects the fact that Niphan Wang Na is not only a  historical literature but also needs to be praised as a religious literature as well due to the value it has which this was what the writer intended.
