Monks, novices, understanding of military conscription

Abstract

        This article is presented for understanding the military selection of monks and novices as well as the request for an exemption from military selection according to the Military Service Act 1954 and the Ministerial Regulations issued under the 1955 Act, Thai people, especially men with Thai nationality, all must enter military service. However, there are many who still do not understand the duty of military service in various stages such as military registration, acceptance of criteria, Military conscription including the exemptions, and request for a waiver of military service in the active-duty division which caused confusion, do not understand how to perform the duties correctly or have been instructed to act illegally.  Until having to be prosecuted a lot on the charge of avoidance (Military registration), not receiving a summons (conscription), or not going to the selection examination (military conscription), etc., causing both time and property to be wasted in fighting the case. Therefore, for the Thai people who are both students and the general public know the duties and practices related to military service correctly, the Recruiting Division, the Clerk Department has therefore created this manual to clarify and emphasize the understanding of military service in order to perform the duties required by law correctly. Moreover, they would have good conscience ready to dedicate physical and mental energy sacrificing personal happiness to serve the nation with willingness as a true military man. Hopefully, this article will usefully educate people on knowledge about military service as appropriately as it could be.
