The Application of Good Governance Principles in Zakat Collection and Its Impact on the Efficiency of Management of the Zakat Fund of the Foundation for the Islamic Center of Thailand

Abstract

        This research aimed to: 1) study the application of good governance in Zakat fund management; 2) examine the efficiency of Zakat fund management; and 3) analyze the influence of good governance on the management efficiency of the Foundation for Islamic Centre of Thailand. This study employed a survey research design. The sample consisted of 322 Zakat donors and recipients. The research instrument was a questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.98. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Multiple Regression Analysis at a statistical significance level of .05.

The findings revealed that:

  1. The application of good governance in Zakat fund management, both overall and in individual aspects, was at the highest level. Ranked by mean from highest to lowest, the aspects were Rule of Law, Accountability, Morality, Cost-effectiveness, Transparency, and Participation, respectively.
  2. The efficiency of Zakat fund management, both overall and in individual aspects, was at the highest level. Ranked by mean from highest to lowest, the aspects were Quality, Cost, Time, and Quantity, respectively.
  3. The results of Multiple Regression Analysis indicated that good governance significantly predicted the management efficiency of the Zakat fund, accounting for 71.9% of the variance (R² = .719). The factors significantly influencing efficiency, ranked by their predictive power from highest to lowest, were Accountability, Transparency, Morality, Participation, Cost-effectiveness, and Rule of Law.
