Abstract

This quantitative research aimed to investigate two primary objectives: 1) the perception of Integrated Marketing Communication strategies, and 2) the influence of Integrated Marketing Communication strategies on building destination brand equity in Thailand’s Secondary Tourism Cities. Data were collected from a sample of 400 Thai tourists aged 18 and over who had experience with or interest in secondary city tourism across the country, using Multi-Stage Sampling, with the sample size determined by Taro Yamane’s formula. A structured questionnaire with high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.859) was used for data collection. The data were subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics and Multiple Regression Analysis. The findings reveal that the majority of respondents are private company employees aged 26–30 years, who prefer traveling with friends to natural attractions (Mean 4.44) averaging three trips per year. Respondents rated the importance of Integrated Marketing Communication strategies highly (Mean 4.09), with On-site Communication being the highest-rated strategy (Mean 4.36). Overall, the development of brand equity in secondary cities was also rated highly important (Mean 4.09), particularly the dimensions of Perceived Quality and Brand Satisfaction (Mean 4.16). The most crucial quality factor was identified as Polite Staff (Mean 4.41). The Multiple Regression Analysis confirmed that three IMC factors are the most significant predictors of destination brand equity in Thailand’s secondary cities, collectively explaining 57.10% of the variance (R² = 0.571, Adjusted R² = 0.567): 1) Word-of-Mouth (WOM) or Reviews, 2) Advertising, and 3) Communication reflecting Uniqueness or Distinctiveness. The study recommends that secondary city tourism promotion should prioritize controlling on-site service quality and staff behavior to directly stimulate positive WOM, coupled with utilizing advertising that emphasizes the destination’s unique identity to ensure sustainable differentiation and brand building.
