A Study of Teachers’ Coping Skills at Samsenwittayalai School
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research article aimed to examine the level of coping skills among teachers at Samsenwittayalai School. The study employed a descriptive research design. The participants consisted of 147 respondents, including 5 school administrators and 142 government teachers at Samsenwittayalai School. The research instrument used for data collection was a coping skills assessment questionnaire, which comprised two parts: (1) general information of respondents in a checklist format with 7 items, and (2) a coping skills scale consisting of 54 items using a five-point Likert scale. The instrument demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency reliability, with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .89. Data were collected through an online questionnaire (Google Form), and all 147 questionnaires were returned, representing a response rate of 100 percent. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including maximum, minimum, mean, percentage, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that the overall level of coping skills among teachers at Samsenwittayalai School was at a moderate level (Mean = 3.07, SD = 1.24). When considering each dimension, the highest levels were found in delay coping (Mean = 3.74, SD = 0.55), suppression of competing activities (Mean = 3.69, SD = 0.59), and acceptance (Mean = 3.68, SD = 0.52). In contrast, the lowest levels were observed in active coping (Mean = 1.68, SD = 0.31), positive reinterpretation (Mean = 1.68, SD = 0.42), seeking social support for problem-solving (Mean = 1.71, SD = 0.33), and behavioral expression (Mean = 1.71, SD = 0.41). These findings indicate that while teachers demonstrate strengths in emotional regulation and adaptive coping strategies, they exhibit limitations in proactive problem-solving skills. Therefore, it is essential to promote and systematically develop teachers’ problem-focused coping skills to enhance their ability to effectively manage challenges in their professional practice.
