Guidelines for the management of Buddhist tourist attractions in Lom Rad Sub-district, Thoen District, Lampang Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1. to study the relationship between the management of Buddhist tourist attractions and Sammappthan 4 (Right Efforts 4) and 2. to present the guidelines for the management of Buddhist tourist attractions. This study is amixed methodology between quantitative and qualitative research. For quantitative research, questionnaire was used as a research tool. The sample consisted of 390 people. Taro Yamane's formula was applied for sampling. Data were collected by questionnaires with reliability of 0.95, The data were analyzed in descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics. The hypothesis was tested by analyzing Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Qualitative research was done by in-depth interview with 10 key informants by using the structured interview and descriptive content analysis.

The results of the study were as follows

1. The Sammappthãn 4 principle is related to the management of the Buddhist tourist attractions in Lom Rad Sub-district, Thoen District, Lampang Province in overall with statistical significance of 0.01 level, with positive relationship or corresponding characteristics in pairs in overall at the very high level with Pearson Correlation (r) of 0.84. When each aspect was considered, it was found that the pair of the tourists’ attractiveness and the understanding of the tourist site had the highest level of relationship (r= 0.86), secondly, it was the pair of facilities and the supplementary service (r = 0.81), and the least one was the pair of supplementary service provided by the local people and on Bhãvanã-padhãn 4 nbathan (r = 0.61)


2. Guidelines for the management of Buddhist tourist attractions in Lom Raet Sub-district, Thoen District, Lampang Province are as follows: On the attractiveness of tourists, there is a guideline to manage and take care to prevent damage in accordance with the dharma principle of Sammappthãn 4 (Right Efforts 4), not to demolish to build new things and to preserve local traditions. On the access to tourist attractions, there is a guideline to manage to prevent damage according to the dharma principle of Sammappthãn 4 (Right Efforts 4).
