Human Ecology: Concepts and the Integration of Buddha Dhamma for Creating Social Relationships

Abstract

The purposes of this research article were 1) to study Disa 6 (Six Directions) influencing humans in society; 2) to examine approaches to building relationships and coexistence based on Disa 6 (Six Directions); and 3) to propose guidelines for integrating Disa 6 (Six Directions) into building relationships in society. This was the qualitative research, involving document analysis, interviews with 15 informants, and focus group discussions with 8 participants. Descriptive content analysis was used to analyze the data. The research findings revealed that 1) the influence of Disa 6 (Six Directions) on humans in society: Disa 6 (Six Directions) played a significant role in shaping the conduct of individuals in different social statuses, serving as a framework for life. Applying Disa 6 (Six Directions) helped reduce conflict in families, societies, and organizations, as well as promoting justice and peaceful coexistence; 2) the guidelines for building harmonious relationships based on Disa 6 (Six Directions) promoted the role of the family in instilling morality. Cultivating virtues and ethics from a young age helped individuals be responsible and respectful of others, fostering understanding and mutual respect; 3) the guidelines for integrating Disa 6 (Six Directions) in building social relationships through human ecology included 3.1) promoting interpersonal relationships within families; 3.2) developing effective relationships in the workplace and among colleagues; 3.3) strengthening community and social bonds; 3.4) developing an education and knowledge system that aligned with human ecology and Disa 6 (Six Directions); and 3.5) creating a balance between economic and environmental development according to Disa 6 (Six Directions) and human ecology.
