Developing Task-Based Learning Activities in conjunction with TikTok Application to Enhance Japanese Communication Skills

Abstract

The objectives of this research article were 1) to create and evaluate the effectiveness of task-based learning activities combined with the TikTok application according to the 75/75 criterion; and 2) to study the results of using task-based learning activities combined with the TikTok application to develop Japanese communication skills of Mathayom Suksa 5 students. The sub-objectives were 2.1) to study the development of Japanese communication skills during the learning activities; 2.2) to compare the Japanese communication skills of learners before and after learning; and 2.3) to compare the Japanese communication skills of learners after learning with the 75% criterion; 3) to study of students' opinions on work-based learning activities with the TikTok application to develop Japanese communication skills of Mathayom Suksa 5 students using a 3-step research and development process: 1) creation and effectiveness finding phase, consisting of (1) learning activity plans, (2) assessment form for the suitability of learning activity plans, found to be at the highest level of suitability (==4.82, S.D=0.29), (3) assessment form for Japanese communication skills, found to have an index of consistency (IOC) of 1.00 and reliability between assessors with a relationship () of .957; 2) experimental phase, by experimenting with 20 Mathayom Suksa 5 students from Satri Nakhon Sawan School through purposive selection; 3) study of students' opinions phase, the tool used was a questionnaire for students' opinions, found to have an index of consistency (IOC) of 1.00 . The research findings showed that 1) the learning activities were effective with scores of 81.59/76.04, meeting the 75/75 criterion; 2) students' Japanese communication skills after the lesson were significantly higher than before the lesson, and exceeded the 75% benchmark at the .01 statistical significance level; 3) students' feedback on the learning activities indicated that the activities boosted their confidence in speaking Japanese, promoted pair work, and the TikTok application made learning fun, different from traditional learning methods
