An Adaptation Of The Hill Tribe Novices : A Case Study Of Mae Taeng Wittaya Pariyattitham School, Wat Nong Kong, Khilek Sub-District, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the adaptation of the hill tribe novices of Mae Taeng Wittaya Pariyattitham School, Wat Nong Kong, Khilek Sub-District, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province, 2) to analyze the adaptation of the hill tribe novices of Mae Taeng Wittaya Pariyattitham School, Wat Nong Kong, Khilek Sub-District, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province, and 3) to study the problems and obstacles of co-existence of the novices in order to further modify and apply. Mae Taeng Wittaya Pariyattitham School, Wat Nong Kong, Khilek Sub-District, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province has a policy of receiving all different hill tribe novices to attend and live in school and temple. So the director, teachers, escorts, senior novices and those involved people in temple and school are good examples of morality, ethics. They lead new comer novices to practice charity, precepts and meditation and they teach academic knowledge, reading, speaking and writing in order to promote the adaptation of coexistence of new hill tribe novice students coming every year. The novices come from different ethnic groups with their own local dialects, different traditions, beliefs and cultural concepts. Adaptation to the coexistence under differences in many aspects is an important thing in casting ethics and morality of hill tribe novice students. The school focuses on moral education. In addition to teaching and learning activities, teachers will always emphasis on living with others and being a good friend to each other. Problems and obstacles of adaptation in coexistence in Mae Taeng Wittaya Pariyattitham School, Wat Nong Kong, Khilek Sub-District, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province are caused by local dialects, different traditions, beliefs and cultural concepts. Thus hill tribe novices need to learn and accept the differences and diversity of multicultural society. The school, temple and teachers focus on giving knowledge of adaptation of both language and communication. They teach novice students to use Thai, clear, polite, not vulgar language and respect each other; do not show modesty and verbal insults, to live together in a disciplined manner. All hill tribe novices are obliged to treat the school and temple, for these are places to educate and shelter. Students are assigned daily activities in both temple and school to teach them to learn living together in society and to create harmony, discipline, and solidarity.
