A Study of the Affect of Violating the 5th Precept

Abstract

This  research is a documentary research, based on the Tipitaka and academic documents in order to study the effect of violating the 5^th precept. It is aimed to 1) study the concept on the 5^th precept, 2) to study the violating of the 5^th precept, and 3) to study the effect of violating the 5^th precept. Results of the study are as follows:  Precept that an intoxicant drink is the cause of carelessness. Upon the intake of intoxicant drink, it caused carelessness and losing physical control. The violating of the 5^th precept is summed up that the Buddha pointed out that alcohol is the cause leading to violation of other precepts, undermining the quality of life and affecting the quality of life development in respective of developing oneself, family, economy and society.As for the impact of the 5^th precept violating, it was found that the violator will suffer directly and indirectly no matter it was committed intentionally or unintentionally.
