The Practice of Giving according to Mangala Sutta in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the merit-making practices in Theravada Buddhist philosophy. There are issues to be studied as follows: The practitioner, the devotional tools, the way of practicing, the virtue of devotion practicing and the penalty of lack practicing. The results of the study showed that the teaching of practicing is in a provision of auspiciousness No. 15 on the 5^th chapter in the sacred teachings of 38 steps toward of enlightened living. Therefore, the principles of giving could have ideas and approaches to giving furthermore, the giving can be useless and harmful if it is without principles of giving thus might be dis-benefit charity. For those reasons, the merit charity is know how to give in suitability and keeping constant with it.
