THE ASSESSMENT GUIDELINE OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHER’S COMPETENCY BASED ON TEACHING PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

Abstract

The objectives of this qualitative research were: 1) to study the pre-service teacher’s competency according to the expectations of those involved in the production of student teachers 2) to propose the assessment guideline of pre-service teacher’s competency based on teaching professional standards. Data were collected by a structured interview from 25 key informants with purposive sampling and then analyzed the data by content analysis.

The results of this research found that:

1. The pre-service teacher’s competency according to the expectations of those involved in the production of student teachers aligned with teaching professional standards, that consisted of 3 competencies which were: 1) the teacher performance 2) the learning management 3) the relationship with parents and community.
2. The assessment guideline of pre-service teacher’s competency based on teaching professional standards consisted of 3 competencies: 1) teacher performance; should be assessed on the commitment to development, the empathy, and the inspiration that including acting as a good role model for students 2) learning management; should be assessed on the learning management in a specific field, the assessment to improve and develop the students, making a report on learning management results, making student care solution, and conducting the classroom action research 3) relationship with parents and community; should be assessed on the cooperation with parents to develop and to solve the problems of the students, and the participation in community activities to support quality learning of the students.
