This study aimed to: 1) enhance teachers’ knowledge and understanding of active learning through a literature-based approach; 2) develop teachers’ competencies in implementing literature-based active learning; and 3) assess teachers’ satisfaction with the competency development process. The study employed an action research design based on Kemmis and McTaggart’s framework, consisting of two cycles, each comprising four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were seven teachers from schools in the Kwang Jon Subdistrict group under the Chaiyaphum Primary Educational Service Area Office 2. Workshops and internal instructional supervision were employed as the primary professional development strategies. Research instruments included knowledge tests, interview forms, lesson plan assessment forms, instructional competency assessment forms, observation forms, and meeting records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis.
The findings revealed that:
1. In the first cycle, teachers demonstrated improved knowledge and understanding of literature-based active learning and were better able to design appropriate lesson plans, particularly in selecting instructional content, identifying key concepts, and preparing learning materials.
2. The competency assessment conducted during the first cycle revealed that two teachers demonstrated moderate overall levels of instructional competency, particularly in implementing learning activities and assessing and applying learning outcomes. Following individualized instructional supervision and coaching in the second cycle, all seven teachers were assessed as being able to implement literature-based active learning activities correctly and appropriately across all five instructional stages.
3. Students’ overall satisfaction with the learning activities was at a high level.
