Abstract

This study aimed to (1) develop teachers’ knowledge and understanding of active learning management using the 5-Step ladder model, (2) enhance teachers’ ability to implement active learning using the 5-Step ladder model, (3) examine teachers’ satisfaction toward the competency development, and (4) investigate students’ satisfaction with active learning instruction based on the 5-Step ladder model. The research employed an action research design based on Kemmis and McTaggart’s framework, consisting of two cycles: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were six teachers who voluntarily participated in the study. The research instruments included a test, interview form, observation form, competency assessment form, and satisfaction questionnaires. The development strategies consisted of workshops and supervision. Data were analyzed using mean scores and descriptive analysis.
The findings revealed that:
1) teachers’ knowledge and understanding significantly improved, with post-test scores increasing by 33.33% and reaching the highest level;
2) teachers’ ability to implement active learning improved progressively, from a high level in the first cycle to the highest level in the second cycle after coaching supervision;
3) teachers reported the highest level of satisfaction with the competency development; and
4) students also reported the highest level of satisfaction with the active learning instruction. The results indicate that the integration of workshops and coaching supervision effectively enhances teachers’ competencies in active learning management and contributes to improved student engagement and satisfaction.
