Development of a Training Curriculum Based on Vuddhidhamma Principles Integrated with Experiential Learning Theory to Enhance Artificial Intelligence Competencies in Active Learning Management among Buddhist Monks Teaching Morality in Schools in Khon Kaen Province
Abstract
The purposes of this research were to: 1) study the training needs for enhancing artificial intelligence competencies in active learning management among Buddhist monks teaching morality in schools in Khon Kaen Province; 2) develop a training curriculum based on Vuddhidhamma Principles integrated with experiential learning theory; 3) examine the results of implementing the training curriculum; and 4) evaluate the training curriculum. This study employed a research and development methodology. The sample for the needs assessment consisted of 234 Buddhist monks teaching morality, while the target group for curriculum implementation consisted of 30 monks. The research instruments comprised a needs assessment questionnaire, the training curriculum, a curriculum manual, a knowledge test, a practical skills assessment form, an attitude scale, and a curriculum opinion questionnaire. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, the Modified Priority Needs Index, the Index of Item-Objective Congruence, and a dependent samples t-test.
The findings revealed that: 1) the overall need for developing artificial intelligence competencies among Buddhist monks teaching morality was 0.532, with the highest need found in artificial intelligence skills; 2) the developed training curriculum consisted of seven components: rationale and needs, principles, objectives, content structure, training activity process, learning media and technology, and measurement and evaluation. The expert evaluation indicated that the overall suitability of the training curriculum and its manual was at the highest level; 3) after the training, the participants’ knowledge and attitudes toward using artificial intelligence were significantly higher than before the training at the .01 level, and their overall practical skills were at a good level; and 4) the participants’ overall opinions of the training curriculum were at a high level.
