Abstract

This study aimed to: 1) develop English teachers’ knowledge and understanding of brain-based active learning management; 2) enhance teachers’ competencies in brain-based active learning management; and 3) examine teachers’ satisfaction with the competency development process. The study employed an action research design with eight participants and was conducted in two cycles based on the framework of Kemmis and McTaggart, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research instruments included a knowledge and understanding test, lesson plan evaluation form, classroom teaching performance assessment form, interview form, student behavior observation form, satisfaction questionnaire, and meeting record form. Quantitative data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and percentage, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
The findings revealed that:
1. The participating teachers’ knowledge and understanding of brain-based active learning management improved, with the mean score increasing from 50.63% before the development process to 84.38% after the development process.
2. Teachers’ competencies in brain-based active learning management improved. In the first cycle, teachers were able to prepare lesson plans at a high level, but some still had limitations in implementing the plans, particularly in the skill-practice and knowledge-application stages. After the second cycle, which involved internal supervision and continuous consultation, teachers were able to design and organize more diverse learning activities that were appropriate for learners and better promoted learning through hands-on practice.
3. Teachers’ overall satisfaction with the development process was at the highest level, particularly regarding the benefits provided to learners.
