The Development of Reading Comprehension Skills for Ggrade-5 students using Moral book Stories

Abstract

This research aims to develop a teaching style for improving reading comprehension by moral storybooks. The comparison between pre reading comprehension with non-moral storybooks and post reading comprehension with moral storybooks will prove that the moral storybooks is suitable for improving reading comprehension. Grad 5 student 30 persons are target group. The methods of research are 30 multiple-choice knowledge measurements and teaching observations. Without moral storybooks, 18 students, 60 percent, are not qualified the criteria whereas with moral storybooks, all students are qualified for reading comprehension. By applying t-dependent, the research shows 9.36 about mean and 2.23 about standard deviation for pretest and 16.16 about mean and 1.34 about standard deviation for posttest. The posttest scores indicate higher significantly statistical implication than pretest scores at 0.001 level (t = 27.094, p = .000). Apparently, students’ reading comprehension can be improved by moral story books. In addition, the moral story books not only are fun but also contain knowledge which is various in different field such as honesty and sacrifice. These make students better for reading comprehension.
