Knowledge and Practice on Nursing Supervision of Nurse Supervisors in Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital

This descriptive research aimed to study knowledge, practice and relationship regarding personal factors on nursing supervision of nurse supervisors in Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital. The participants were 210 professional nurses who performed nursing supervision at all level were selected by using multistage random sampling. The research instrument was the questionnaire that included: demographic data, knowledge and practice on nursing supervision. The questionnaire was validated by 5 experts. The precision indexes were 0.80 and 0.74 and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient were 0.84 and 0.86, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson product-moment correlation. The research results revealed that: 1) The overall nursing supervision knowledge was at the moderate level (M=18.37, SD=3.03), the highest score was the restorative clinical supervision at the high level (M=7.09, SD=1.25, the normative and the formative clinical supervision were at moderate level (M=5.73, SD=2.61 and M=5.50, SD=1.45 respectively). 2) The overall nursing supervision practice was at the high level (M=4.09, SD=0.47), the 3 aspects were at the high level, whereas the formative and restorative clinical supervision were equal scores (M=4.12, SD=0.05, SD=0.45 respectively), and the lowest score was the restorative clinical supervision (M=4.03, SD=0.56). 3) Bachelor degree was not relevant with the knowledge and practice in nursing supervision, but age and duration of working were positive associated at low and moderate level with the nursing supervision practice significantly at .05 level (r=.194,.204 respectively)
