การตัดสินใจในการดำเนินชีวิตประจำวันและการดำเนินงานจะถูกต้องแม่นยำหรือลดข้อผิดพลาดต้องดำเนินการภายใต้ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลจึงมีความสำคัญในทุกกิจกรรม องค์กรสารสนเทศเกี่ยวข้องกับข้อมูลและการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลในทุกขั้นตอน ทั้งการดำเนินงานขององค์กรเองที่ต้องมีการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเพื่อรายงานผลการดำเนินงานให้ผู้บริหารใช้ข้อมูลเป็นแนวทางในการวางแผนและการตัดสินใจ ตลอดบุคลากรใช้ข้อมูลเป็นแนวทางในการปรับปรุงการทำงาน ด้านการให้บริการสารสนเทศการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลช่วยในการจัดบริการและกิจกรรมที่สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของผู้ใช้ บทความนี้กล่าวถึงความหมายของข้อมูลและข้อมูลขนาดใหญ่ องค์ประกอบ ขั้นตอนในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล เทคนิค เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล และการประยุกต์การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลกับองค์กรสารสนเทศ
