From Medical Book Days to Sustainable Development

Abstract

The Faculty of Medicine Library, Chiang Mai University not only intends to be a learning center that supports teaching and research for students and staffs in the health sciences program, but also provides knowledge outside the curriculum and 21th century skills which are important for living harmoniously in the community, both in and out of campus. Thus, the Medical Book Days conference which consist of lecture activities, workshop lectures, and seminars focusing on sharing valuable experiences, knowledge and inspiration by expert speakers were provided since 2006 onwards. From the total of 16 conferences, the total of 63 lectures were performed, in which 23 lectures from highlight topics since 2006 and all items in the last 5 years (2015-2019) contributed to the Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs of 8 goals out of a total of 17 goals. The majority of the lectures (14 lectures (61%)) focused on goal 3: having the best health and well-being while 9 lectures (39%) contributed to another 7 goals. From the total of 1,626 lecture participants, Goal 3: Health and Well-being had the highest attendants; 1,227 people (75%) with the rest of the participants (399 participants (25%)) attended the lectures focused on another goals. Participants’ status including the staffs, students, public, patients and their relatives who was provided an opportunity to access accurate academic information from expert speakers. This is an important service of the library that we aims to continuously provide to the community.
