Coping of Libraries in Thailand during the Coronavirus Outbreak 2019

Abstract

This article presents survey results on how the libraries in Thailand coping with the coronavirus 2019 outbreak, including the concern of library personnel during the situation and the expectations on the role of Thai Library Association during the crisis. The respondents are librarians, teacher-librarians, library staff, administrators, and information specialists of 126 from college and university libraries, 109 from school libraries, 15 from special libraries, and 12 from public libraries. It was found that the libraries had preventive measures focusing on the concept of a new normal, social distancing, and create new services to serve their users during the situation. The library personnel was concerned about the risks of coronavirus when commuting to work and the lack of equipment and technology skills to work at home. In addition, they expected that the Thai Library Association should act as a leadership role in educating and providing guidelines and practices as well as conducting online training to educate the member libraries during this crisis.
