Abstract

This current research aimed 1) to study the states, and factors resulting in the guidelines for the prevention of plagiarism for students, 2) to develop the guidelines for the prevention of plagiarism for students via the following procedures: stage 1 was to study states, and factors that led to the development of guidelines for prevention of plagiarism for students. The samples were 400 graduate students who study in state universities in the northern region by multistage random sampling.  The data were collected by employing questionnaires and analyzed by using descriptive statistics:  frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA).  Stage 2 was to check the guidelines for the prevention of plagiarism for students through 9 experts from Connoisseurship and analyze by using inductive and descriptive analyses.  The findings found that 1) the graduate students obtained knowledge and understanding of plagiarism overall at a high level.  They have plagiarism behavior overall at a moderate level.  The causes of their plagiarism occurred from their factors at a high level in that they lack English skills, they want better grades/marks and convenience preference.  Factors that resulted in the guidelines for plagiarism of students had three components: prevention, awareness, and support.  These three components together explained the factors that resulted in the guidelines for plagiarism prevention of students of 70.139 percent and 2) the guidelines for plagiarism prevention of students included 3 guidelines: prevention, awareness, and support.
