An Analysis of International research outputs of the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, during the period of 2014-2023

This article aims to examine the volume of international research publications by academic staff from the Faculty of Science at Mahidol University, as documented in the Faculty’s MUSC E-Publication database from 2014 to 2023. Furthermore, it evaluates the quality of journals and investigates the correlation between journal quality and citation frequency.
The study found that the total number of research publications from the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, over the ten-year period from 2014 to 2023 was 4,119. These publications were categorized by source type as follows: journal articles numbered 3,872, accounting for 94.00% of the total. Within this category, the document types were distributed as follows: 3,691 articles (89.61%), 140 reviews (3.40%), 23 letters (0.56%), 13 editorials (0.32%), and 5 notes (0.12%). Conference proceedings accounted for 185 entries (4.49%), and book series accounted for 62 entries (1.51%). Regarding the quality of the journals, specifically the Journal Quartile and Top 10%, focusing on journal articles and reviews, there were 3,831 entries in total. These were distributed by journal quality as follows: Q1 journals comprised 2,146 entries (56.02%), with 725 entries (33.78% of Q1 journals) being in the Top 10%. Q2 journals accounted for 1,004 entries (26.21%), Q3 journals totaled 381 entries (9.95%), Q4 journals accounted for 152 entries (3.97%), and there were 148 entries (3.86%) in journals without a Quartile ranking (No Q).
