A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE DUTIES OF THE RULERS IN CAKKAVATTISUTTA IN THERAVADA BUDDHISM AND THE ANALECTS OF CONFUCIANISM

Abstract

This paper has three objectives to study and to comparatively study the concept of duties of the rulers in Cakkavatti Sutta and the Analects of Confucianism. This is a qualitative research done by studying academic documents. This study is of documentary research. The results of the study were as follows: From the comparison of the duties of the rulers in Cakkavatti Sutta of Theravada Buddhism and the Analects of Confucianism, it was found that the similar point of them was that the rulers have to discharge their duties for people in their subject just as they are benefactors or ones that the rulers have to be responsible for and take care of them. The different points of them was that the duties of the rulers in Cakkavatti Sutta emphasize on the public relations for communicating information such as notifying that this is good and having virtue, this is not good that should be avoided, etc., but in the Analects of Confucianism, emphasize on producing or doing concretely such as education, viz., the knowledge-giving, because society would be good once the rulers have to create the opportunities to them not only give them food.
