The Power of School Administrators that Affecting Teachers' Teaching Competencies in the 21st Century Educational Service Area Office, Songkhla,Satun

Abstract

This research aimed are 1) to study the level of power usage by educational institution administrators, 2) to study the level of teaching competencies of teachers in the 21^st century, 3) to study the relationship between the use of educational institution administrators’ power and the teaching competencies of teachers in 21^st century, and 4) to study the use of educational institution administrators’ power that affects the teaching competencies of teachers in the 21^st century under Secondary Education Service Area Office, Songkhla, Satun. The sample consisted of the administrators and teachers of the schools under Secondary Education Service Area Office, Songkhla, Satun. The sample size, determined using the G* Power Analysis program, was 153 people, selected using simple random sampling without replacement. The instrument used was a 5-level rating scale questionnaire that consisted of the use of educational institution administrators’ power, and the teaching competencies of teachers in the 21^st century. The questionnaire’s content validity values ranged from 0.67 to 1.00 and the reliability values were .977 and .974. The statistics used included mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis for all variables. The results were as follows: 1) The power usage by educational institution administrators was at a high level in all aspects, 2) the overall teaching competencies of teachers in the 21^st century were at a high level in all aspects, 3) the use of educational institution administrators’ power had a positive relationship with the teachers' teaching competencies in the 21^st century at a high level statistically significant at a .01 level, and 4) the power used by the educational institution administrators that affected the teaching competencies of teachers in the 21^st century under Secondary Education Service Area Office, Songkhla, Satun were referent power (X₅), ecological power (X₇), and coercive power (X₂) which could be predicted at 74.20 percent with the standard score prediction equation  = .381 (X₅) + .237 (X₇) - .135 (X₂).
